Life must be protected

Regarding Kathy Edry’s recent exceptional letter titled “Overturn Roe v. Wade” (Jan. 24):

Mrs. Edry has had extensive experience in counseling girls considering abortion or those who actually have had abortions. She is very familiar with the extensive depression most have after the procedure is performed.

Unfortunately, once many of them fully realize that their babies actually have been killed, they are never fully able to put the pain and depression aside, and it remains with them throughout their remaining lives.

One may ask referring to me: How does he know? I have worked extensively with pro-life activities and values since Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in 1973. I have encountered many pregnant women (and teenagers) who were contemplating or have had abortions, and were seeking information and/or emotional help to ease the problems they were dealing with. Unfortunately, if it is post-abortion, we can offer only limited help, other than to encourage them to seek spiritual guidance and forgiveness.

The information and statistics on the Internet will show that one of President Obama’s first official acts as president was to support international abortion activities, which was followed by broad domestic support. Unfortunately, much of our media make it sound as if Planned Parenthood is working tirelessly to end abortion. This is absolutely false. During past years, Obama’s government contributions to Planned Parenthood have ranged about $1.5 million a day, or $540 million a year. That is our money, and this expenditure is totally unreal and unacceptable. What can and must be done to stop it?

Before I close, let me offer two more brief, but very important, thoughts for consideration.

If one of your parents or grandparents had been aborted, how would it have affected you, your family, your children or your grandchildren? Think about it. Also, how many unintended effects on families have occurred and will occur in the next 25, 50 or 100 years? Unbelievable, isn’t it?

Second, what effect does the 55 million innocent babies killed during the past 41 years have upon the actual values and respect we have, or should have acquired, for their lives during this period? In honesty, we can readily see the impact of one abortion or the general acceptance of legal abortions on the absolute value of life.

In a healthy, moral society, we must conclude that all life must be legally protected and defended from conception until natural death. This is a spiritual, moral and natural value that cannot and must not be compromised.
